Matilda’s Ghost
A true tribute to the Australian spirit and the legend of “The Swagman.”

Matilda’s Ghost is a tribute to the Australian spirit, as recounted in the bush ballad “Waltzing Matilda” by Banjo Paterson. The song narrates the story of that iconic Australian Larrikin, “The Swagman”, who, having stolen a jumbuck (a crime punishable by hanging), is discovered camped by a billabong by the sheep’s owner and three policeman. Rather than be captured and face an acrimonious death, he jumped into the water and drowned himself. Legend has it that his ghost still haunts the site to this day.
